Alfred T. Palmer: Strobist in 1940 May 05 Duncan

This weeks’ Fantastic Film Friday features some of the work of Alfred T. Palmer, a photographer who’s work I was unaware of until this week.

The work in FFF shows some of the stunning color photos he produced for the TSA during the second world war. His use of dramatic lighting of environmental portraits in vibrant color makes me think he might be the prototypical Strobist: his use of off camera light on location to tell the story of the subject really shows what photography is capable of.

I haven’t found much in a cursory search of the net, but I really do want to know more about the way he produced these compelling photos.
